Extra – How to Calibrate your Color Sensor.

This video is a reminder about how to calibrate the color sensors attached to a LEGO EV3 Robot.

LEGO MindStorms EV3 Color Sensors are incredibly sensitive to variations in light that we would not necessarily notice ourselves. In practice, it is necessary to calibrate the Color Sensors of a LEGO EV3 Robot at the start of each Robotic session. Even though  these EV3 color sensors are an improvement on the old Light Sensors supplied with the previous LEGO MindStorms NXT sets, they still need to be re-calibrated regularly. A streak of sunlight across the floor near a Robot can often cause your Robot to behave erratically. We have also found that windows without curtains in the room we are using, can contribute towards the light on the floor changing, because clouds passing in front of the Sun can cast shadows. You will get a lot of practice in calibrating your Color Sensors.

  1. Hi, I do believe your site may be having browser compatibility issues. Whenever I take a look at your site in Safari, it looks fine however when opening in Internet Explorer, it’s got some overlapping issues. I simply wanted to provide you with a quick heads up! Apart from that, wonderful blog!|

  2. Have you ever thought about creating an e-book or guest authoring on other blogs? I have a blog based on the same information you discuss and would love to have you share some stories/information. I know my viewers would enjoy your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to shoot me an e mail.|

    1. Hi Irwin, if you go to http://www.DrGraeme.org and follow the links, you will find downloadable overviews of our LEGO EV3 tutorials in ePub, pdf & Kindle formats. I’ve also contributed contributions on teaching robotics to various meetings & conferences… Thanks for your query Irwin, Graeme.
